What began as a missing person report resulted in an arrest for trafficking methamphetamine.
At approximately 2:37 a.m. May 21, Spalding County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Nathan Gray conducted a traffic stop on a gold GMC Sierra pickup truck that was previously reported as being involved in a missing person incident from the day before.
“ Deputy Gray located the vehicle in the 2900 block of the North Expressway and conducted a traffic stop. When Deputy Gray spoke to the driver, he could produce no identification or driver’s license. Deputy Gray was able to use the name that the driver gave to him, compared it to our in-house arrest records, and was able to determine that he was Juan Camacho H/M 27, who was the missing person. He was alone, appeared fine, and had no indication of being in any distress,” said Sheriff Darrell Dix.
Gray was joined by Sgt. Jennifer Fuller and Deputy Phillip Ramsammy, and when they checked Camacho’s driver’s license status, his license came back as suspended.
Camacho was arrested for driving on a suspended license.
“When they handcuffed Camacho and searched him, Deputy Gray found a bag with a clear crystal-like substance in Camacho’s pocket that appeared to be methamphetamine,” Dix said. “A further search of the truck incident to the arrest revealed over a kilo of methamphetamine, scales, packaging materials, and $3709.00 in cash.”
Camacho has been charged with trafficking methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of drug related objects and driving on a suspended license.
He is being held without bond in the Spalding County Jail.
“Deputy Gray, Sgt. Fuller, and Deputy Ramsammy did an outstanding job in closing out the missing person incident, and having the drive to go further than just the traffic stop,” Dix said. “Because of their efforts a kilo of meth is off the street and a drug trafficker woke up in jail this morning.”
