Couple accused of starving child face criminal attempt to commit murder and other charges

A Griffin couple has been charged with criminal attempt to commit malice murder, criminal attempt to commit felony murder, false imprisonment, cruelty to children and an assortment of other charges in what one official has described as a horrific case of child abuse.

Tyler Matthew Schindley, age 46, and Krista Washburn Schindley, age 47, were arrested May 12, at their 1705 Westminster Circle residence.

The victim is a ten-year-old boy.

The Griffin Police Department, on the advice of City Staff Attorney Kelsey Carden, is refusing to release the initial incident report, but The GRIP obtained copies of several arrest warrants in the case that describe some of the allegations.

Outlined therein by Griffin Police Department Investigator Jodi Spears are the bases of the criminal attempt to commit malice murder charge each suspect faces.

Both Tyler Schindley and Krista Schindley “unlawfully and with malice aforethought,” and with “an abandoned and malignant heart” withheld food from the young boy, causing starvation.

The warrants for criminal attempt to commit second degree murder include allegations the suspects withheld medical attention as the young boy was being starved.

Tyler Schindley and Krista Schindley are both being held without bond in the Spalding County Jail. The each face charges of criminal attempt to commit malice murder, criminal attempt to commit second degree murder, false imprisonment, cruelty to children, battery and simple battery,
