A young child, hundreds of thousands of dollars and multiple firearms were recovered, and three suspects were arrested in connection with the armed robbery of an armored car.
Griffin Police Department Uniform Patrol Division officers responded at approximately 7:30 p.m. May 15, to a report of an armed robbery at Ross department store located at 1424 North Expressway.
Upon arrival, officers learned the suspect vehicle had left the scene, but was being followed by a witness.
This information was relayed to the Spalding County Sheriff’s Office and other GPD officers.
Based on information provided by the witness who followed the suspect vehicle, it was located in the vicinity of Springview and Ridgeview drives.
Deputies from the SCSO Uniform Patrol Division and S.T.I.N.G. Unit, along with GPD officers, conducted a felony traffic stop on the vehicle. As a result, three suspects were apprehended.
Along with the armed robbery suspects, a four-year-old boy was located in the suspect vehicle.
Authorities say $365,000, three handguns and an AR pistol were also recovered.
Maurice Lewis, age 28, Lakeith English, age 29, and Johnathan Way, age 28, are currently being held in the Spalding County Jail.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation Atlanta Field Office has taken over this case.
