SHEILA A. MATHEWS :::

Two  homes sustained damage in a Thursday evening shooting incident in the vicinity of N. Hill and Realty streets.

After responding to the area in response to a shots fired call, Officer Willie Deese, of the Griffin Police Department Uniform Patrol Division, was flagged down by a man who reported having observed at least two individuals on North Avenue fire weapons towards Hill Street.

Deese said that after speaking with residents in the area, officers first discovered the home at 111 Realty St., which is owned by Jarrell Bush, had sustained damage from gunfire.

Bush was not home when the incident occurred.

The residence at 111 Realty St. was later found to have been struck by gunfire.

Four people were present in that residence when the shots were fired.

“A projectile went through the back of the residence into a bedroom occupied by the tenets (sic),” Deese said.

Authorities say multiple shell casings were located on North Avenue and behind 705 N. Hill St.

A search warrant was later executed at 705 N. Hill St., leading officers to find three firearms in the attic.

A 9 mm handgun in the attic was found to have been reported stolen in the city, officials said.

A total of 12 shell casings and one live round were recovered during the investigation.

According to GPD Chief Mike Yates, one arrest has been made in the case and more are expected.

“A 16-year-old was arrested in relation to this incident (stolen gun),” Yates said. “Additional charges and arrests are anticipated as well as Gang Act charges but the case is still in the early investigative stage.”
