Four-year-old Griffin boy in critical condition following shooting

A four-year-old Griffin boy is in critical condition after being shot.

Officers of the Griffin Police Department Uniform Patrol Division on Tuesday morning responded to a call reporting a gunshot victim at 1110 W. Poplar St., Building U.

Upon arrival, UPD officers rendered aid to the child while awaiting the arrival of emergency medical personnel.

The victim was flown by air ambulance to Navicent Health in Macon.

He is listed in critical condition.

Investigators say the child was shot inside an apartment in the Versaille Apartments complex.

James Lee Evans, age 20, has been arrested and charged with cruelty to children and second-degree reckless conduct.

At the time of this arrest, Evans was on bond for charges of theft by receiving and the Georgia Street Gang Act.

The victim’s mother, 24-year-old Jamacia Lyons, has also been arrested and charged with cruelty to children and reckless conduct.

Authorities say additional charges against Evans, Lyons and others may be forthcoming.
