SHEILA A. MATHEWS :::

Voters at one Spalding County polling location – Sunnyside United Methodist Church – experienced a delay in casting their ballots this morning when the precinct’s voting machines did not start at 7 a.m. when the poll opened.

According to Spalding County Election Supervisor Marcia Ridley, the problem was not associated with the voting machines, but rather the precinct’s infrastructure.

“The plug wasn’t working correctly over there. Something with the wall; it was a shortage or something. Once they got it switched out to the other side of the room, it was okay,” Ridley said.

One voter who reported the problem to The GRIP said a line had formed out the door and that the issue took approximately half an hour to resolve.

They stated they were among the first ten people in line to vote but did not leave until nearly 7:45 a.m.

Ridley disputed that account, describing the delay as much briefer.

“It took probably three minutes to go and take the cord to the other side,” Ridley said. “I just checked with the poll manager and she said three to five minutes. Everything is good. No lines. No nothing.”

She also confirmed there have been no issues reported at any of Spalding County’s remaining polling locations.

“Dominion and No Ink have sent their top shelf people here to work with me in this election and I really appreciate that,” she said.

Today’s vote will determine the outcome of the Senate runoff pitting Republican incumbents David Purdue and Kelly Loeffler against Democratic challengers Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock.
