Positive COVID-19 tests for two Griffin High School staff members has resulted in the closure of the school for the remainder of this week.
Griffin-Spalding County School System officials say those two staff members have been in close contact with a number of other staff members. As a precaution, the exposed staff members must be quarantined for ten days in accordance with Centers for Disease Control guidelines.
The number of quarantined staff members created a strain on the operational capacity of the school, which led officials to determine students will complete the week with at-home remote learning.
End-of-course testing will be rescheduled to a makeup date in January.
Teachers and staff will work remotely from home Tuesday, Dec. 15, which will provide an opportunity for the entire building to be sanitized.
Teachers and staff not quarantined will report back to Griffin High School on Wednesday, Dec. 16 and finish out the week on campus.
Two-day meal packs will be available for pick up at Griffin High School from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday. They may be picked up on the bus ramp.
In-person learning will resume Jan. 6, 2021, after the Christmas break.
