SHEILA A. MATHEWS :::
A Griffin man was killed Thursday evening after being struck by a vehicle on Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway, or Georgia Highway 3.
According to Cpl. Scott Tarpley, of the Georgia State Patrol-Griffin Post, 56-year-old Bruce Blandenburg was pronounced deceased at the scene.
“The gentleman was crossing Ge. 3 from the center median going east from west and he was struck in that number two lane. His body came to a final rest at O’Dell, at that intersection,” Tarpley said.
Blandenburg was struck by one vehicle, and the driver, a female, has not been identified.
“There are no charges against the driver. It was just an unfortunate situation where he was wearing all black and was in the road. The driver was not at fault for that collision,” Tarpley said. “She was very distraught. Absolutely distraught, understandably. He just came out of nowhere and there are no lights out there.”
Authorities say Blandenburg had been released from the hospital just prior to being killed.
