STAFF REPORT :::

The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting in Fayette County that is related to a recent Pike County murder.

The preliminary investigation indicates that at 9:18 a.m., the U.S. Marshals Service and Fayette County Sheriff’s Office executed an arrest warrant for Antonio Murgado Jr. at 429 Sage Brush Trail, Fayetteville.

Murgado Jr. was being sought for the July 16 murder of James Knight.

Authorities say that upon entering the residence, a United States Marshals Task Force officer was shot and wounded.

In turn, officers returned fire, and Murgado Jr. sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

The Task Force officer and Murgado Jr. were treated at the scene before being transported to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta with non-life-threatening injuries.

The GBI investigation is active and ongoing. Once the investigation is completed, the case file will be given to the Griffin Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review.
