STAFF REPORT :::

The Griffin Police Department is warning people to be aware of a scam involving GPD telephone numbers.

Officials say the scam involves callers falsely claiming a warrant has been taken against an individual and their offer to dismiss that warrant for a fee.

The scammers, using GPD telephone numbers, attempt to obtain gift cards, bank account and credit card information in exchange for the dismissal of the non-existent warrant.

The GPD stresses that no one from that agency will call and attempt to solicit money.

Anyone who receives such a fraudulent call call should immediately hang up and call 911 or 770.229.9911. A report may also be made directly to the GPD Criminal Investigation Division at 770.229.6450.
