STAFF REPORT :::
The Griffin Police Department arrested one man today after a fight escalated into a shooting incident.
GPD officers responded to the 100 block of Wedgewood Walk after a call to 911 reported a fight.
That fight escalated to gunfire before officers arrived.
Authorities say that as multiple parties fled the scene on foot and in vehicles, responding officers detained several individuals.
One man, 18-year-old Zarion Lewis, was identified as the driver of a Dodge Challenger that had been struck gunfire multiple times.
Officials say camera footage obtained by investigators showed Lewis fired a gun at unknown people before fleeing the scene.
As he was allegedly eluding officers, Lewis discarded a handgun by tossing it out the vehicle’s window, officers said.
Lewis has been charged with second degree criminal damage to property, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, two counts of reckless conduct and obstruction of a law enforcement officer.
Additional charges are forthcoming.
Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to contact GPD Investigator Powell at 470.771.3097 or rpowell@cityofgriffin.com.
