Temporary relief at the pumps has arrived with a temporary reduction in Georgia’s motor fuel sales tax.
Governor Brian Kemp on Friday signed House Bill 304, which suspended the tax through May 31. The tax suspension took effect at 5 p.m. Friday.
This sales tax reprieve applies to gasoline, clear diesel, aviation gasoline, liquid propane gas, gasohol, ethanol, liquified natural gas and compressed natural gas.
Officials say motor fuels sold for off-highway use such as jet fuel and dyed diesel are typically not subject to the state’s motor fuel excise tax.
To compare gasoline prices, consumers may visit fueleconomy.gov.
Consumers who wish to file a complaint about suspected gasoline price gouging may do so through the Georgia Attorney General’s Office at https://consumer.georgia.gov/.
House Bill 304 does not suspend any other taxes levied by state or local government.
