STAFF REPORT :::

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating an allegation of missing deposits from the Griffin Golf Course.

An “internal source” reported the missing deposits to the office of City Manager Jessica O’Connor on Feb. 11, 2022.

Authorities say O’Connor immediately opened an internal investigation. The GBI was subsequently asked to assume that investigation.

According to a press release, Griffin Golf Course Golf Shop Manager John Nordan was terminated as a city of Griffin employee for “failure to follow established policy and procedures in the safe handling of property in the performance of his job responsibilities.”

Griffin Public Works Director Chris Walker, Nordan’s direct supervisor, has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the GBI investigation.

“We are dedicated to the highest ideals of honor and integrity in order to merit the respect, trust, and confidence of the citizens of Griffin,” said O’Connor. “It is my responsibility to uphold our city values and take noticeable action when these values are not met.”

The City of Griffin is cooperating with the ongoing investigation by the GBI and can not comment on the investigation at this time.

Publisher’s note: The GRIP received a tip about Walker’s administrative leave and Nordan’s termination on Friday, Feb. 18. A call was placed that day to City Manager Jessica O’Connor’s office seeking comment. O’Connor never responded that call.
