The Spalding County Sheriff’s Office has made a third arrest in the brutal April 2021 murders of Joshua Wyatt and Carlos Benford.
Kristin Cordero-Rojas, age 29, was on Thursday arrested in an operation including the SCSO Special Operations and CAGE units, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Gang Task Force, United States Marshal Service and Clayton County Sheriff’s Office.
Cordero-Rojas is charged with two counts of murder and two counts of armed robbery.
The bodies of Wyatt and Benford were located in the bed of a burning pickup truck in eastern Spalding County. Officials say both victims had been shot, placed in the truck bed, covered with an accelerant and set ablaze.
The investigation led to a Dutchman Road residence where authorities say the Wyatt and Benford were killed and the suspects – Erik Albrealopez, Alicia Rojo Sanchez and Cordero-Rojos – attempted to conceal the crime by destroying the crime scene.
“When this investigation began all we had to go on was that the bodies of two unidentified African American males had been found in the bed of a burning pickup truck. The subsequent investigation allowed us to identify the victims, notify their families, and eventually led to the arrests of Erik Cabrealopez, and Alicia Rojo Sanchez for murder and other charges related to the deaths. Yesterday, we arrested a third suspect, Kristen Cordero-Rojas, and we will continue our search for those responsible anytime, anyplace, and anybody,” said Sheriff Darrell Dix. “We have had the full support of Griffin Judicial Circuit District Attorney Marie Broder and her Office, and the help from the agencies we have reached out to has been phenomenal. These young men and their families deserve justice. We are going to continue to do all we can to help them get that justice, ensure that those responsible are held accountable, and that they pay the price for what they did.”
