SHEILA A. MATHEWS :::

Three Griffin men have been arrested and a fourth is being sought in connection with a Tuesday afternoon shooting.

According to the Griffin Police Department, Investigator D.J. King was patrolling in the vicinity of 403 W. Taylor St. at approximately 2 p.m. observed what appeared to be an altercation including gunfire involving several men.

Before King could respond, the involved parties fled the scene in vehicles.

King attempted to initiate a traffic stop which resulted in a brief pursuit that ended near the intersection of North 12th and West Solomon streets when the officer lost contact with the suspect vehicle in heavy traffic.

Soon after, WellStar Spalding Regional Hospital reported a man had been brought to the emergency room for treatment of a gunshot wound.

Investigators say the individual seeking treatment was involved in the altercation.

Officials say the investigation, along with video obtained from a nearby business, resulted in the recovery of the vehicle involved and the identity of all suspects.

Deangelo Johnson, age 32, has been charged with robbery by sudden snatching, battery, affray, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and participation in criminal gang activity. Johnson had recently been released from prison on a charge of armed robbery.

Delshon Pearson, age 29, has been charged with robbery by sudden snatching, battery, affray and participation in criminal gang activity. Pearson, who has been identified as the shooting victim, is currently on bond on charges of aggravated assault and cruelty to children.

Jamarcus Prather, age 32, has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault, affray, criminal damage to property, reckless conduct and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Warrants have been obtained for a fourth suspect, 25-year-old Jamaurius Ponder, who remains at large. Officials say Ponder is currently on bond for gang related charges.
