SHEILA A. MATHEWS :::

An attempted traffic stop on Wednesday led to a vehicle pursuit and arrest of two people on numerous narcotics charges.

Officers of the Griffin Police Department Special Investigation and CAGE units attempted to execute a traffic stop for an alleged seatbelt violation on the vehicle driven by 24-year-old Kentavius Davis in the vicinity of W. Solomon and 9th streets.

Officials say Davis fled the traffic stop and, in the process, nearly struck head on a patrol vehicle en route to assist in the pursuit. They also allege Davis abandoned large amounts of narcotics by throwing them from the vehicle as he fled.

Authorities say Davis ultimately lost control of his vehicle and struck a gas meter and building at Southside Medical Center Hope Health Clinic located at 409 W. Solomon St.

Davis was extracted from his vehicle and taken into custody.

GPD officers then evacuated people from surrounding residences and businesses.

Griffin Fire-Rescue and Atlanta Gas Company crews responded to the scene to turn off the open gas line.

A search warrant was later conducted at Davis’s 114 S. 16th St. residence resulting in the seizure of three firearms, a large quantity of marijuana, oxycodone pills packaged for distribution and more than $8,000, officials said.

The investigation also resulted in the arrest of Davis’s girlfriend, 18-year-old Ariana Amador.

Davis is facing charges of felony possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of a Schedule II narcotic, possession of a Schedule II narcotic with intent to distribute, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, fleeing and attempting to elude, tampering with evidence and multiple traffic infractions.

Amador was charged with possession of a Schedule II narcotic, possession of a Schedule II narcotic with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
