13-year-old boy killed and second person injured in overnight residential fire

A 13-year-old Spalding County boy was killed, and a second person was injured overnight in a residential fire.

The Spalding County Fire Department at 12:19 a.m. Wednesday responded to a call reporting a structure fire at 116 Woodcrest Drive.

Upon arrival, SCFD officials reported heavy smoke and flames were visible from the rear of the residence.

Firefighters made entry and removed the 13-year-old male victim who was transported by ambulance to the WellStar Spalding Regional Hospital Emergency Room where he later died.

The second male victim also received emergency room treatment for unspecified injuries.

Neither victim has been identified.

The fatal fire is under active investigation by Spalding County fire officials, who have also requested the assistance of the Georgia Office of Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner.
