A Griffin woman has been arrested in connection with an alleged domestic dispute that investigators say resulted in a man being cut with a knife and a subsequent SWAT Team response.
According to Sheriff Darrell Dix, deputies responded at 4:33 a.m. Sunday to a call reported a person being cut during a domestic dispute at 1504 Rhodes Lane.
Upon arrival, deputies contacted Roger Taylor, age 57, who reported his live-in girlfriend, 62-year-old Earline Phillips, had attacked him with a knife.
“According to the victim, Phillips began arguing with him when she came home late and she appeared intoxicated. At some point during the argument Phillips retrieved a large bread knife from their kitchen and attacked him,” Dix said. “During the attack Taylor received a cut that was several inches long on his left hand between his thumb and index finger before he was able to get away from her and leave the apartment.”
Other deputies attempted to contact Phillips, who was reportedly seen moving about inside the residence and peeking out a window, but officials say she refused the come to the door or speak to them.
Authorities say the situation escalated after Deputy Bryan Head contacted Phillips through the door, after which she allegedly ceased communicating and barricaded herself inside the residence.
Deputies notified personnel of the Criminal Investigation Division, who obtained a warrant for Phillips’ arrest on a charge of aggravated assault under the Georgia Family Violence Act.
A search warrant for the residence was also obtained for the purpose of collecting evidence and documenting the crime scene, officials say.
The SCSO SWAT Team and a member of the Crisis Negotiation Team then responded.
“Our Crisis Negotiator was able to make contact with Phillips, successfully engage her in conversation, and convince her to come out. Phillips exited the residence at approximately 7:30 am and was taken into custody without incident or injury by SWAT Team members,” said Dix, who later added, “Great work by the initial responding Deputies, Investigators, SWAT Operators, and Crisis Negotiator in bringing this incident to a peaceful conclusion (sic all).”
Phillips is being held without bond in the Spalding County Jail.
