Murder suspect identified, being sought by authorities

The Thomaston Police Department has identified a suspect in a Dec. 1, 2020 murder and investigators are seeking the public’s assistance in locating this individual.

Authorities say 26-year-old Jakari Daniel, also known as “Byrd,” is wanted in connection with the murder of Michael Gates.

According to investigators, Gates was shot and killed during a home invasion in the Wellington Place Apartments in Thomaston.

Officials say Daniel and a second man intended to commit a robbery when they shot and killed Gates.

Daniel is considered armed and dangerous.

He is described as a black male between 5 feet 8 inches and 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighs approximately 160 pounds.

Daniel has facial tattoos, including a cross in the middle of his forehead.

Anyone with information pertaining to Jakari Daniel’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Thomaston Police Department at 706.647.5455.
