STAFF REPORT :::

In response to a surge in COVID-19 cases and the critical level of patients in local hospitals, Griffin City Hall will be closed to the public beginning at noon Monday, Jan. 11.

The Customer Service lobby will be open from 8 a.m. to noon Monday and the drive-thru will be open from noon to 6 p.m. From Tuesday through Friday, the Customer Service lobby will be closed and the drive-thru will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

“After several briefings over the last few weeks with GMA and several conversations with other local officials, we decided that temporarily closing City Hall to the public was the best thing to do to protect our staff as well as the public,” said Griffin City Manager Kenny Smith. “Our local healthcare workers are doing a tremendous job fighting to get this pandemic under control and we want to do our part to help as well.”

All internal offices will be closed to the public, but staff will remain in City Hall on split and alternating shifts to reduce exposure and improve the ability to maintain social distancing standards.

A list of frequently called numbers to direct those in need of assistance has been added to the city of Griffin website at cityofgriffin.com. The public is asked to be patient when calling in as staffing will be reduced.

The city’s website also includes a list of ways bills can be paid without entering the building.

City of Griffin officials say they are committed to the health and safety of staff as well as that of the public, and that the situation will be monitored as it progresses and plans for reopening will be updated each week, as needed.
