STAFF REPORT :::

For the second time in as many days, COVID-19 has caused the shutdown of in-person learning in a Spalding County school.

The Griffin-Spalding County School System on Tuesday announced that Cowan Road Middle School students will be switching to remote learning for the remainder of this week.

All students will resume virtual studies beginning Wednesday, Dec. 16.

Teachers will work from home the remainder of the week.

Students will resume in-person learning after the Christmas break, beginning Jan. 6.

School officials say there are now five positive staff COVID-19 cases at Cowan Road Middle School. None of those five staff members are classroom teachers.

Six additional staff members are quarantined due to close contact.

At this time, no students are believed to have met the Centers for Disease Control guidelines for close contact.

The school will be sanitized during the shutdown.

It was announced Monday that Griffin High School students will revert to distance learning the remainder of this week. Two GHS staff members tested positive for COVID-19 and officials said “a number” of additional  staff members are quarantining due to close contact.
