Three people were injured in a head-on collision Friday evening at the intersection of Highway 16 and High Falls Road.
According to Sgt. Robert Thompson, of the Georgia State Patrol-Griffin Post, the wreck resulted from distracted driving.
“One driver was distracted and ran the red light at 16 and struck one that was crossing the intersection. In turn, the vehicle went over and struck the control box for the red light and caught on fire,” Thompson said.
Rachel Hughes, age 33, of Clairmont, Fla., who was driving a 2017 Jeep Latitude, was cited with failure to obey a traffic control device in the incident.
Takiyah Gregory, age 29, of Marianna, Fla., who authorities say had the right of way when her 2009 Hyundai Sonata was struck in the intersection was transported to the emergency room of WellStar Spalding Regional Hospital (WSRH). Hughes and a passenger in her vehicle were also transported by ambulance to WSRH for treatment.
