A vehicle pursuit Thursday night involving the Spalding County Sheriff’s Office ended in Lamar County at approximately 7:20 p.m. when a deputy performed a PIT maneuver.
Maj. Dwayne Jones said the pursuit began when another deputy attempted to execute a traffic stop.
“Deputies noticed a vehicle driving extremely erratically and reckless in the area of the railroad tracks of Johnson and Macon roads. They went to initiate a traffic stop and the vehicle fled the scene. The vehicle traveled on County Line Road of course to the bypass and turned towards the direction of Barnesville,” Jones said. “An off-duty deputy who was on his way home and in a marked car joined the pursuit. Due to the erratic nature of her driving – the driver was a woman – a PIT maneuver was performed. He’s actually certified in performing the PIT maneuver and was able to execute that successfully.”
Jones said no one was injured and only slight damage to the driver’s vehicle resulted from the incident.
“It just shows our deputy’s awareness. Even though Deputy Jacob Strock was on his way home, he was nearby, he heard the call on the radio and he responded to the scene. He was able to engage the driver and engage a successful pit maneuver which terminated the pursuit without injuries to any of the parties involved, which is what we want,” Jones said.
Authorities say the driver will face numerous traffic charges.
