STAFF REPORT :::
A Spalding County deputy has been arrested on charges related to the sexual assault of a jail inmate.
According to Sheriff Darrell Dix, 22-year-old Quentin M. Morgan, an SCSO detention officer, was arrested May 24 and faces charges of sexual assault, sodomy and violation of his oath of office.
Morgan’s arrest resulted from a complaint filed by a Spalding County Jail inmate who reported that Morgan had entered his room and assaulted him.
Dix said the inmate’s complaint was investigated by the Spalding County Sheriff’s Office, including deputies from the Criminal Investigation Division and the Office of Professional Standards.
Officials say investigators interviewed the inmate, reviewed video footage from the date of the alleged incident and gathered evidence. Morgan was then interviewed.
After waiving his Miranda rights, Morgan ultimately confessed to the crimes, Dix said.
Morgan was terminated, arrested and booked into the Spalding County Jail.
“When speaking with the Judge we requested that Morgan be denied bond,” Dix said. “He broke the law; he will be held accountable and the (sic) face consequences.”
Morgan remains in the Spalding County Jail, where he is being held without bond.
He had been employed by the Spalding County Sheriff’s Office since April 2024.
