SHEILA A. MATHEWS :::
A forecast of rain will not spoil the fun of tonight’s Christmas tree lighting in historic downtown Griffin.
With no rain anticipated from 6 to 8 p.m., officials announced this afternoon that a sing-along with the Spalding High School Chorus will begin at 5:45 p.m.
The evening’s guest of honor, Santa Claus himself, will arrive at 6 p.m. and lead the lighting of the tree in front of Customer Service at One Griffin Center on Hill Street.
Christmas in Griffin, an experience hosted by City Church, will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Solomon Street.
City Church invites the community to come walk Christmas Tree Lane, enjoy a train ride, visit with Christmas characters, decorate cookies and play in the snow.
Yes, it will snow in Griffin tonight!
Spalding County will be set up in the Park at Sixth with scores and an opportunity to write letters to Santa, Stache Studio will host ornament painting and Santa will be in the fire bay of Historic City Hall for photos until 9 p.m.
Be sure to bring a blanket and chairs for City Church’s 7:30 p.m. showing of the animated movie “The Grinch” on the lawn in Solomon Park.
“We are honored to partner with the City of Griffin to create a free Christmas experience in the heart of our city,” said City Church City Engagement Pastor Warren East.
“Thank you, City Church, for enhancing our annual tree lighting experience,” said Griffin Main Street Manager Heather Robinson. “It is with community partnerships that we continue to grow downtown events and enhance the quality of life for our citizens.”
